After 46 years, just woke up

Here I am in some mall in a suburb of a major metropolitan area of the United States of America watching the quintessential Merry-go-round pulse with light as zebra, sea horse, and rabbit slide up and down in scintillating arcs of color.

Laughing children. The sound of a nearby fountain. Christmas music.

It is near the end of the first decade of the 21st Century. Many things have happened since I have been on the planet. Vietnam, lunar landings, China’s embrace of capitalism, global warming, 9/11, the Interwebs, mass mobile communication, and rise of social media.

Married, 2 kids. An unusual, (but ambitious and successful), executive career.

I am filled with an artificial sense of self-worth.

Somehow I thought the world needed me among the six and a half billion others. I was doing more than consuming oxygen, wasn’t I?

Somewhere in these 4 and a half decades I fell asleep, and I just now woke up.
